Tigger from Winnie the Pooh

Drawing of Tigger

That's T - I - Double Guh - Er! Tigger is a very bouncy fella. Tigger is amongst the most exuberant creatures in the 100 Acre Wood, and his most stand out and well-known feature is his very springy tail. When Tigger is in a bouncing mood he is actually expressing his zest for life and is a form which he often uses as a technique to share his eagerness and happiness or even fondness amongst his dear friends. He shall act on impulse and will make a dash on being jubilant but that impulsive dash more often than not is jumping around without taking measure of the surroundings. This at times leads to mishaps and causes utter mayhem. What is also regarded to being one of his hobbies is that he will exaggerate the truth.

Another description that also captures Tigger’s characteristics is that he is molded out of rubber on his upper top while his bottom or lower half is created using springs. He is a bouncy, pouncy, flouncy and a trouncy creature who is always looking to have fun no matter what the situation might be.

Tigger stands at nearly 23 inches in height; he loves to eat extracts of malt and is an extremely fussy eater. He dislikes the taste of honey (Hunny), thistles and haycorns. Things that he derives pleasure in doing are of course bouncing and creating mayhem. He also likes playing a detective.

He first came into being in 'In which Tigger comes to the Forest and has breakfast', chapter two of 'The House at Pooh Corner'. His character is easily recognizable by the black and orange stripes, a springy tail, a long chin, beady eyes which all mix well into his bouncy & fun loving personality. He looks a bit like a tiger but the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is that "I'm the only one!" Tigger likes to bounce a lot, "cause that is what Tiggers do best." However, bouncing can get him and the others into a lot of trouble sometimes.

Tigger’s introduction is marked by his venturing on the doorstep of Winnie the Pooh in the middle of a night with a big bounce bang. Despite him saying that he likes eating “everything” it is quickly known that he isn’t fond of honey (Hunny), thistles and haycorns or even the other food available in Kanga’s kitchen. While the search is on to find him something as per his liking it revealed that he loves the extract of malt which Kanga keeps to give Roo (Kanga’s son) as a strengthening medicine.

From then on Tigger makes Kanga’s house his house and resides with Roo & Kanga in their house located in the northeastern section of the 100 Acre Wood along side the Sandy Pit. Soon Tigger becomes goods friends with Roo. At times Tigger gets so overly enthusiastic about things while conversing with other characters that some like Rabbit become vary of him. His constant bouncing makes the others somewhat trying to distance themselves from him fearing his acts might lead to a mishap. Eeyore was once bounced into the river by Tigger while Piglet is always a tad nervous being around when Tigger is his bouncy mood.

The wonderful thing about Tiggers.....Is Tiggers are wonderful things.....Their tops are made out of rubber.....The bottoms are made out of springs.....They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy.....Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun.....But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is.....I'm the only one.....The wonderful thing about Tiggers.....Is Tiggers are wonderful chaps.....They're loaded with vim and vigor.....They love to leap in your laps.....They're jumpy, bumpy, clumpy, thumpy.....Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun.....But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is.....I'm the only one.....Tiggers are cuddly fellows.....Tiggers are awfully sweet.....Everyone else is jealous..... That's why I repeat.....The wonderful thing about Tiggers.....Is Tiggers are wonderful things.....Grrrrrrrrrrrrr ! ! ! !

Tigger happens to be an outgoing, cheerful, competitive (in a friendly manner), fully confident of himself. Few things that Tigger claims Tiggers can accomplish are jumping well ahead of a kangaroo, flying, swimming and tree climbing. He does not attempt to show he is capable of doing the 1st three but he can climb a tree. It is shown that he can climb only half way up but cannot manage to climb down.

Paul Winchell provided the voice for Tigger in the Disney Winnie the Pooh movies.
